Our January Storytimes include:

January 6th – Bundle Up with Books.  We will get our snow clothes on for Kipper’s Snowy Day by Mick Inkpen, and search the great outdoors with Peter on The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats.

January 13th – Snow Time Like Now for a Good Book.  It’s time to play in the snow with Lois Ehlert in Snowballs one of the great Snowmen books of all time.  It’s also time for a walk in the woods with Let’s Go Home, Little Bear by Martin Waddell.

January 20th – A Flurry of Fleming.  Just in time for the Miller Art Museum’s Denise Fleming art display, (opening January 24th) we have Barnyard Banter and Alphabet Under Construction.  Come listen to the books and then go to the opening of the Exhibit.

January 27th – A Little Bit ‘O Critter – Mercer Mayer’s Little Critter books are such fun!  Join us in advance of Little Critter’s Birthday Party (Saturday January 31st 12:30-1:30) for some great Little Critter books, including Just A Snowman and Just Go To Bed.

the stories. Although, books are the highlight of our sessions, we branch

off into other areas, such as learning about whatever the object of our

theme is. We entertain, and we learn at the same time! We also have crafts,

and great companionship. It has become the social hour of the week for

many of our regular attendees Many friendships have formed within

this group. Today the primary concern of the kids in attendance was a

Turkey Puppet, that they spied on my shelf. What was he, and when would

they get to see him? Well, I told them, they need to stay tuned to next

week’s “Thanksgiving Themed” story time, and “Gobbler” our Turkey will

definitely make an appearance. We presently have story times on Friday

mornings at 9:30 a.m. Please call with any questions!

The WFoP was established in 1950 and has a mission of bringing recognition to poetry, supporting Wisconsin poets, and encouraging the study of poetry in Wisconsin schools. They have also been instrumental in establishing a Poet Laureate for the state of Wisconsin. The current Poet Laureate for Wisconsin is Marilyn L. Taylor of Milwaukee. Storytime themes for November include:

November 4th – Happy Birthday Books – Come celebrate your Un-birthday with Max and Ruby in Bunny Party by Rosemary Wells.  We will sing birthday and unbirthday songs, and we will read about the great big party in the tiny little house in Mouse’s Birthday by Jane Yolen.

November 11th – Going to the Zoo – We’re going to the zoo, so how about you?  Will you come too?  Celebrate the fun of the zoo in books and in song.  We will read Color Zoo by Lois Ehlert and Good Night, Gorilla by Peggy Rathmann.

November 18th – Down on the Farm – You might think that farming is nothing but work, but just wait ’till you meet these silly farm animals!  Come explore with a curious chicken in Minerva Louise at the Fair by Janet Morgan Stoeke, and try new things with David Shannon’s Duck on a Bike.  We will also sing about what Old MacDonald has on his farm, so come prepared for a fun time!

November 25th – Thanksgiving Day – This week we all get together and hear about a little boy and his Thanksgiving Treat by Catherine Stock, count our way through a Feast for Ten by Cathryn Falwell, and meet a hungry granny in I Know an Old Lady who Swallowed a Pie by Alison Jackson.  Come give thanks for all the wonderful books in our lives!

On Nov. 8 Barbara Schall will read The Little Old Woman Who was not Afraid of Anything.

Storytime themes for October include:

October 7th – A Splash of Color – The trees are turning colors all around us.  Join us for stories about fall leaves, including the story Leaf Man by Lois Ehlert.

October 14th – On the Road Again – Cars and Trucks travel the roads, and so will we on this trip across country.  Join us for the ABC’s of Garbage in the book I Stink by Kate McMullan.

October 21st – Make Tracks – Ride the rails during Storytime with great books about trains, including a rythmic ride with  Clickety Clack by Robert Spence.

October 28th – Silly and Spooky Stories – Halloween is just around the corner, so it’s time to hear about The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid Of Anything by Linda Williams.  Come see the Five Little Pumpkins roll out of sight.

The Toy Barn in the Childrens Department at Sturgeon Bay has toys for babies, building toys, board games, electronic games, puppets, and plenty more; all available for checkout for 28 days (just like the books!).

Let your favorite child try out a toy for a month instead of buying it right away, or pick out a variety of toys for young visitors.  See through bags make browsing easy.
